Usage of 吧

吧 ba modal particle .

The first one, indicating a suggestion.

A：我们去看电影吧！
Wǒmen qù kàn diànyǐng ba!
Let’s go to watch a movie.

B：好的，走吧！
Hǎo de, zǒu ba!
Ok, let’s go! .

The second one, asking for confirmation.

A: 你是中文老师吧?
Nǐ shì Zhōngwén lǎoshī ba?
Are you a Chinese teacher? (I think you are and I am asking for confirmation.)

B: 是，我是中文老师。
Shì, wǒ shì Zhōngwén lǎoshī.
Yes, I am a Chinese teacher.

The third one, indicating that you are not happy about that, but you don’t have other choices.

A： 下雨了，我们明天再去爬山吧。
Xià yǔ le, wǒmen míngtiān zài qù páshān ba.
It’s raining, let’s go hiking tomorrow.

B： 好吧。
Hǎo ba.
Ok... (You don't want to go, but there is no choice.)

A： 你会说中文吧？ 那请帮我翻译一下吧。
Nǐ huì shuō Zhōngwén ba? Nà qǐng bāng wǒ fānyì yíxià ba.
Can you speak Chinese? Then please help me to translate it. (I think you can and I am asking for confirmation)

B： 好吧。
Hǎo ba.
Ok... (I don’t want to, but I have to.)
