由 introduces the person or agent responsible for an action, often in formal written Chinese. In entertainment contexts, it commonly means “played by” or “portrayed by”.

本该 means “originally should have” or “was supposed to”. When paired with 却, it highlights a strong contrast between expectation and reality.
