虽然……但/可是……— although... but...HSK 3
Used to express contrast: the first clause presents a fact or concession, and the second clause gives an unexpected or contrasting result. In formal writing, 但 is sometimes omitted if the contrast is already clear.
"我虽然不是出生在上海，但上海是我的第二故乡。"
尽管……— despite / althoughHSK 5
尽管 introduces a concession, meaning “although” or “even though.” It is often followed by a main clause showing that the result remains unchanged despite the condition. Sometimes 尽管 appears without 但是/却, especially in formal writing.
"尽管仅在上海短暂生活数年，李昌钰始终牵挂着这座城市。"
每次……都……— every time... always...HSK 3
This pattern shows a repeated action or result: whenever something happens, the same action follows. 每次 introduces the occasion, and 都 marks the regular outcome.
"在过去60年里，每次有机会回国，都会到上海走一圈。"
以……的身份— in the capacity of / asHSK 5
This structure means “in the role/capacity of” or “as.” It is used to describe someone’s identity, title, or status when performing an action.
"2024年10月，他曾以上海海外联谊会名誉顾问的身份，发布题为《上海是我的第二故乡》的文章。"
自……以来— since...HSK 4
Used to indicate the starting point of a period continuing up to the present or to another reference point. It is common in formal written Chinese.
