Grammar Points

只要……就……as long as... then...HSK 3

This pattern expresses a sufficient condition: if the condition in the first clause is met, the result in the second clause will happen. It is very common in both spoken and written Chinese.

"只要动起来就好。"

"只要她愿意从事竞技体育,我都会尽全力支持。"

不是……而是……not... but rather...HSK 4

This pattern is used to correct or redefine something. The speaker denies one interpretation with 不是 and then gives the intended or more accurate one with 而是.

"关键不是逃避,而是学会如何与之共处。"

"这不是孩子的问题,是环境和家长的问题。"

无论……都……no matter... all/always...HSK 4

This pattern means 'regardless of' or 'no matter'. It shows that the result in the second clause does not change despite different possibilities in the first clause.

"无论过去、现在还是将来,人都要面对“苦”。"

"进入新领域时,无论过去取得过多高的成就,都要把自己当作一个新人。"

如果……就……if... then...HSK 3

This is one of the most basic conditional patterns in Chinese. It introduces a possible condition with 如果 and the consequence with 就. In natural usage, 就 may sometimes be omitted, but here it helps mark the result clearly.

"如果她愿意坚持,我就鼓励支持;如果不愿意,喜欢别的项目,只要她愿意从事竞技体育,我都会尽全力支持。"

"如果直挺挺地落地,一定会受伤;但如果学会顺势缓冲,风险就会大大降低。"

虽然……但/也……although... still/but...HSK 4

This pattern expresses concession: even though one situation is true, another result still happens. In the text, 虽然 is sometimes followed by 也 instead of 但, which is also a common structure.

"当环境把机会送到面前时,我虽然也会紧张到前一晚睡不着觉,但我选择勇敢地去抓住。"

"虽然别人看不到这些付出,但这是一个逐渐渐入佳境的过程。"
