Can anybody please help me to understand how to use 个 and 了 I’m autistic so I have difficulty understanding things. I believe that for 了 it’s got four uses but I’m confused how it only work sometimes such as for past tense about what happened it’s used b it for
Last weekend 上周末 which is in the last it’s not used and makes no sense , ThankYou in advance and if anyone has any other explanations on other grammar types of Chinese characters i would be very grateful As I’m only 3 weeks into learning and will become confused again 😂 x

the point of 了 is "did"(or sometimes "done") something, is the action, the motion, only use it if I did something, like 吃了=ate 听了=heard 去了= went,上周还不错 is only a description, not an action, not "someone did something", so there is no 了. Could this help u?

And 个 belongs to "measure word", we Chinese usually say something by numbers with a measure word. For example "one person" is not "一人“ but ”一个人“, and 个 is not the only one measure word, u will meet more

Hi 🙂

I’m autistic also.

I find the best way to learn is to practice using particles in sample sentences to get a feel for their usage.

‘le’ often indicates that an action is complete or that something has happened and is not still happening.

‘ge’ is simply a common measure word for people or other things that don’t have specific measure words.

In english, we have equivalent measure words like ‘stack’, ‘pair’ etc.

It depends on the item.

It’s the same for chinese.

For paper, we’d use ‘zhang’ rather than ‘ge’.

For long things like roads and a pair of pants, we’d use ‘tiao’.
